Monte Brè Lugano, the sunniest mountain in Switzerland,
offers an incomparable panorama over Lake Ceresio, the city of Lugano
and its surroundings, Mount Rosa and the Italian territory, from Milan
to Turin. On the hillside of Mount Brè Lugano are small villages
called Aldesago (with 546 inhabitants), Ruvigliana, Suvigliana, Chestnut treela
(1886 inhabitants) and Brè.
The lovely village of Brè (785 m. above sea level and 303 inhabitants)
has preserved intact its traditional features and has been enriched
in good taste with works of art scattered all over its ancient nucleus.
The "artistic façades" include works by Aligi Sassu,
Gianfredo Camesi, Gianni Realini, Marco Prati, the Iraqi All Fadhil
and 20 other artists. Joseph Birò painted the Via Crucis, which
decorates the interior of the church of Brè, whereas the exterior
fresco is by Luigi Taddei. The central window is the work of the artist
Francesco Tenzi. At Brè you can also find a museum dedicated
to Wilhelm Schmid.
A number of itineraries lead to Mount Boglia (1516 m.), Alpe Bolla(1129)
and Cureggia (655).
Those wishing to embark on naturalistic and archaeological excursions
May well move down from Monte Brè (785m) to Gandria (340 m) a
picturesque village on the banks of Lake Lugano.
